October 15th is very important to us at Soaper Duper because it’s GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY. And YOU should care about this because…

there are 2.3 billion people in the world – who don’t have access to adequate sanitation.

Alongside free wi-fi, gluten-free bread and Kimye’s inescapable headline-grabbing presence, most of us take soap and sanitation for granted. But did you know that bars of soap (and clean water to wash with) could save a staggering 230,000 lives a year?

Global Handwashing Day has a mission to help save lives, one hand wash at a time, motivate and mobilize people from all corners of the world, and to get the word out (and the habit formed, and the supplies supplied) so that hand washing is understood and practiced globally as a powerful tool in preventing bacteria-related respiratory and diarrhoeal diseases.

(Research says if basic handwashing was accessible to all, we could reduce mortality rates by between 25% and 50%, proving that soap is still the best, easiest to access, and most affordable antibiotic. Over 315,000 children die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.)

What can you do to help?

On October 15th (and if you feel like it, maybe every Saturday) swap that boutique latte for an equivalent donation to an organization like WaterAid or Clean The World (Soaper Duper supports both – because being ‘pro soap’ we’re naturally ‘pro water’).

Lastly, if you would, please share this post, to help us raise awareness and help somebody else with something as simple as soap!
