SOAPER DUPER 7 DAY HANDWASHING CHALLENGE AND REWARD CHART

This Global Handwashing Day (October 15^th) join us in making handwashing with soap a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere within a generation. We have produced a 7-day handwashing reward chart for parents and kids to learn why, when and how best to wash your hands and have fun at the same time!

WHY WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP?

• Globally, handwashing with soap is the most affordable and effective means of combating water-related disease and illness.
• 80% of communicable diseases are transferred by touch
• A single gram of human waste contains 10 million viruses and 1 million bacteria
• Washing with water is not enough. Soap effectively dislodges grease and dirt that trap disease causing germs.
• 242 million school days are missed per year because of diarrhoea. Good handwashing means more time for kids to learn and grow without disease #globalhandwashingday

WHEN SHOULD YOU WASH YOUR HANDS?

• After using the loo
• Before eating
• After handling animals.

HOW DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS?

• Wet hands with water, just enough to cover your hands
• Wash with soap for 20 seconds (palm to palm/ back of hands/ in-between fingers and nails/ thumbs/ back and tips of fingers)
• Rinse with water and dry

For every 15 seconds spent washing hands, 10 times more bacteria is removed.

THE 7-DAY HANDWASH CHALLENGE:

Simply insert your name into the first column, read the proven guidance for when and how to wash your hands. If you wash your hands with soap for 20seconds as directed, before meals, after using the loo and touching animals, put a tick on the chart at the end of that day. The person with the most ticks at the end of 7-days is championed Handwash Hero.
